What is activ’M?

Instructions for use

Clean and dry the skin before use
If necessary, the dressing can be cut to size
Cover the scar, extending approximately 2 cm onto the surrounding healthy skin
Reusable and can be cleaned with a neutral soap or lotion

Instructions for use

Clean and dry the skin
Cut to size if necessary
Cover the scar and approximately 2 cm of the surrounding healthy skin.
The dressing can be used for 5–7 days (5 dressings per pack)

Scar treatment with medical-grade silicone gel

activ’M silicone gel has been specially developed for small and/or visible scars (for example, on the face, neck, or hands). The gel is enriched with vitamin E, dries quickly, is completely transparent, and has a non-sticky feel. It is also available with UV protection (SPF 25).

Instructions for use

Clean and dry the skin.
Apply a thin layer of gel in a single stroke. Do not rub it in.
Repeat twice daily.

How silicone works

Numerous scientific studies have shown that silicone therapy is effective for both the treatment and prevention of abnormal scars. Research demonstrates the beneficial effects of silicone on:

Abnormal collagen formation, which can make a scar firmer and harder
Scar contraction, helping reduce pain and movement restriction
Limited elastin, improving skin flexibility and elasticity
A thin dermis with reduced or impaired skin properties

Pathogenesis

Hypertrophic and keloid scars develop as a result of an abnormal wound healing response. This involves excessive connective tissue formation following events such as surgery, trauma, or burns. Factors that influence this process include:

Genetic predisposition
Ethnicity
Age
Type of trauma

Although the exact mechanisms of scar formation are not yet fully understood, biological, genetic, cellular, immunological, and endocrinological factors are believed to play a role.

Reimbursement for scar treatment.

Whether activ’M is reimbursed by your health insurance depends on the severity of the scar.

When is reimbursement available?

For hypertrophic or keloid scars, following assessment by a physician or nurse specialist.
Based on a fully completed and signed prescription form.
Reimbursement is provided through the basic health insurance package (please note: the annual deductible applies).

When is reimbursement not available?

For preventive use without a medical indication.
For products purchased through the webshop without a prescription form.

Each reimbursement request is assessed individually by the health insurer. The insurer reserves the right to reject a reimbursement request or request additional information.
In the Netherlands, wound care products are subject to the statutory annual deductible. This amount is determined each year. If your deductible has not yet been fully used, your health insurer will invoice you for the applicable amount.
